Secrets
& Lies - Young Angels - Revealed
|
While appearing to be "normal," a
recent report accused Young Angels/ Palisades of being part of wide-reaching and
secret community service activities.
The team has been dealing with allegations of
generosity, kindness, sharing and hard work. Pictured above, L-R, Blake and
Chase Brandon, Amy Dersh, Deja Savoy and Jenna and Soraya Barnes revealed as
king pins of clothing drive to serve homeless of St. Agatha's SHARE
ministry. Tough the group denies weekend
commitment to community service, a Friday evening raid of the YMCA revealed a
group of Young Angels sorting and folding uncountable bags of clothing with an
estimated street value in the thousands. Young Angels President
Rachel Jaffe blamed their behavior on elves and neither confirmed nor denied the
ability of her team to either sort or fold actual clothes. After the huge bags of
clothes were hauled away, the perpetrators were fed pizza then handed over to
custody of their parents, one of whom was heard to say, "I tried the best I
could to teach her right from wrong, I never thought she would sort and fold
clothes for the homeless.... I'm shattered."
Found near a box of folded
and sorted clothes in office of YMCA Executive Director, Carol Pfannkuche,
student activists said the takeover of Ms. Pfannkuche's office was a last-minute
effort to avoid being identified as a young people with compassion, or YPC, as
it's known in the non-profit world. Near tears, an emotional
Nate Galper (right) begged authorities not tell his mother about his clothes
folding. "I'll tell my parents when I'm ready, and that may be when I go to
college."
|
"Not
Ashamed" - Team Leader Accused of Manners.
|
Rachel Butler-Green, Director of Young
Angels Emerging Artists & Executives, was accused of engaging in a
discussion of jewelry and tea party etiquette with her Young Angels Kids of
Grace dance team. When asked for her reaction, Ms. Butler said, "I did nothing
wrong, and I am not ashamed. I have manners. So what? Some teens are just
ready for manners and pearls. I support my Kids of Grace in their decision. I
know they're young, but they are ready."

Could we borrow some of your
clothes to give away? If you are tired of cleaning up your room, and hanging up
your clothes, over and over again.... If you don't wear them anyway, and they'd
look great on someone who is homeless and hungry.... Put those clothes in a bag
and give them to us. You'd don't have to even fold them. With all the room in
your closet, and on your floor, you can put new clothes on your holiday
list.

ALPHA MOM OF THE MONTH Catherine
Fuller, M.D.
|
Last week,
we realized that with one of our staffers on our South Los Angeles program was
having trouble breathing. When she couldn't get a response from her provider,
we called our beloved Dr. Fuller. She took the call, responded with love and
compassion and generosity. Our staffer was under her care within the hour. Dr.
Fuller is first and foremost a mom, and she believes the Young Angels Alpha Moms
mantra, "All the children belong to all of us. And all the moms as well." The
whole gang at Comprehensive Allergy and Asthma Associates are terrific, and have
been taking care of Young Angels and their families for years. 310.828.7978 in

Special
Guest Announced for RUSH - 10.29.10 ASHLEY BENSON - "Pretty Little
Liars" |
Ashley Benson
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Brook
Dougherty 310.573.9913/brook@youngangelsofamerica.org
Ashley
Benson, star of "Pretty Little Liars," announced as Young Angels' Special
Celebrity Guest for RUSH.
Ashley
Benson stars as Hanna Marin, who became the school's new "it" girl after Alison
disappeared. But being at the top of the social ladder is not all it is cracked
up to be, especially when someone is out there reminding Hanna of how things
used to be.
Born and raised in California, Benson developed a passion
for theater at the age of 3, began acting when she was 9 - working mostly in
commercials - and then quickly made the transition into film and television.
Most recently in television, she was a series regular on ABC's "Eastwick,"
playing Rebecca Romijn's daughter, and she starred in the Lifetime Television
movie "Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal." Her additional television
credits include appearances on "The District," "The West Wing," "Scrubs" and
"The O.C." Previously, Benson spent three years on NBC's "Days of Our Lives,"
playing Abigail Deveraux.
Benson made her feature film debut in "13
Going on 30," starring Jennifer Garner. She was also the lead in "Bring It On:
In It to Win It," as the fresh-faced captain of the West High cheerleading team.
In 2009, she was seen in the independent film "Bart Got a Room," opposite
William H. Macy.
Benson lives in the Los Angeles area with Olive, her
Maltese Shih Tzu. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, singing, the beach,
the movies and watching the Los Angeles Lakers - she's a huge fan.
Ms. Benson
will pull three raffle tickets after she is introduced on stage on Friday.
Those winners will accompany Ms. Benson to the step & repeat and participate
in the community service interview conducted by YA Presidents, Deja Savoy and
Rachel Jaffe, and the Young Angels Film Intern and Photographers
team.
